A Bag Built for the City

When you’re in it for the long haul, you’ve got to carry a lot of gear and keep it on lock. Built with lightweight Knurled Welded™ construction, the updated Urban Ex 28 adds 10 liters of storage space and a bunch of new features to make one of our most popular bags even more versatile. We added a watertight quick access compartment for keys, phone and wallet and more internal organization pockets to keep everything squared away even when you’re hitting it hard. Working with cyclists of all shapes and sizes, we improved the shoulder harness design to be more comfortable and adaptable than on any bag we’ve made before. This is the toughest, most resilient bag you’ll ever own.

We improved the original UrbExes to make them even more functional and comfortable to wear. Welding the padded EVA back panel into the frame of the bag keeps the bag waterproof and the wearer comfortable - the added quick-access pockets keep essentials close and out of the weather. Seam taping only goes so far toward keeping something fully waterproof. The UrbEx series has fully-RF-welded seams for a complete seal that carries our highest waterproof rating.

I am an undergraduate biochem student and researcher in Colorado as well as a competitive road and gravel racer. I commute to campus and work daily as my training and have been able to carry not only my books and laptop efficiently but also my change of clothes and food for the day while being able to lash anything else I may need to the back of the pack. It wears supper comfortably and has been solidly water proof. The only issue I have noticed is that the chord on the pocket zipper came out (but was easy to retie) and the lashing eyelets are showing some wear but still seems pretty sturdy.

Worth the investment, but can be improved.

I've been waiting to write this review for some months so I can try and attest to the durability of this bag with my commute 5 days per week(walking, train, bus, and bike). This is also the first bag I've ever splurged on, so I feel pretty passionate about it, which means this review will be pretty long winded. I will try and make updates every couple of months as to how the pack is doing. Storage- I am able to fit my laptop(15 inches wide x ~10 inches deep) in the sleeve, but it took a bit of breaking in(maybe a week). It now fits very snugly, and I can fit a composition book or average sized novel in there if need be. It is important to note that if you don't have your laptop or anything rigid in the laptop sleeve then the bag slouches a bit and is prone to fall over if set down due to it not really having any structure. This pack fits exactly what I need it to in it. I considered getting the smaller version of this pack(18L), fearing this one would be too big, but now it's hard to see how the 18L version would be of any use to any student/person that needs to take multiple books on their commute. The pack fits 4-5 multi subject notebooks(each maybe 3/4 - 1 in. thick), a textbook(about 2 in. thick), some chargers, a 1L Nalgene, and a thermos/sweatshirt at max capacity, not including the storm pocket above the main handle. This bag gets a 4/5 instead of a 5/5 because of the little storage pockets on the interior of the bag. You can fit a day planner, a pencil case, and some odds and ends in it, but this results in the lip of it sticking out and making it hard to put items into the bag without a struggle, and so that you have to STUFF items under it, greatly limiting how much you can pack the bag. Hardware- The hardware is really sturdy, most of the pieces being plastic(but extremely tough). The rings on the back are handy for carabiners(maybe to attach shoes to) + a U lock for a bike. Haven't been in heavy rain yet but it's waterproof enough. Worth the buy.

    A fantastic well made bag.

I use this bag to commute to and from work. I have a 4 year old that I also she'll to daycare. This back can handle all of my stuff and my child's stuff with ease. The laptop sleeve and internal pockets are just the right amount of organization for me. Not to much but not to little either. The waterproof and ruggedness of this bag sold me on it. All y bags take a beating and this one is holding up very well. My ONLY wish is that it had a waterbottle holder somewhere - but alas - this is my only tiny wish.
