A Bag Built for the City

When you’re in it for the long haul, you’ve got to keep your stuff on lock. Built with lightweight Knurled Welded™ construction in a sleek silhouette, the updated Urban Ex 18 adds a bunch of new features to make one of our most popular bags even more versatile. We added a watertight quick access compartment for keys, phone and wallet and more internal organization pockets to keep everything squared away even when you’re hitting it hard. Working with cyclists of all shapes and sizes, we improved the shoulder harness design to be more comfortable and adaptable than on any bag we’ve made before. This is the toughest, most resilient bag you’ll ever own.

We improved the original UrbExes to make them even more functional and comfortable to wear. Welding the padded EVA back panel into the frame of the bag keeps the bag waterproof and the wearer comfortable - the added quick-access pockets keep essentials close and out of the weather. Seam taping only goes so far toward keeping something fully waterproof. The UrbEx series has fully-RF-welded seams for a complete seal that carries our highest waterproof rating.

  • Durable backpack!

I was looking for a light, small backpack that was tough. I wish it had just one or two more pockets on it, but it works great. It rolls down quite compact!

    Great looking Small bag

Great looking, well built backpack. The material feels durable and flexible, and the waterproof rating and lifetime guarantee inspire confidence. It is too small for my use, however, so I will probably return it, but the 28L seems like it might be too big for me. I also noticed that the plastic buckle closers feel stiff, but maybe these become easier to open and close with use.

18L, not laptop sleeve, no problem.

Coming from someone who's into bags, this backpack is simply awesome. The beautiful slim minimalist profile, lightness and total rain proof is why I chose it. It's been hard to pick something that's the right size and has the right features for an all around backpack for commuting and using on weekends. I considered the Peak Design Everyday and the Wandrd Prvoke for their weather resistance and camera storage options but they were too heavy and expensive. This is my first Chome bag and I'm super happy with my choice. Here were my concerns and how the bag faired. Concernn: No laptop sleeve I bought a Tomtoc slim top loading EVA hard shell that fits like a glove. It's super protective since it has extended bezel protection and looks like it was made for the bag. This makes the bag lighter when there's no need to carry a a laptop since I just remov it completely. Concern: Too small I really wish this was 20L but the fact is I haven't had issues fitting stuff in. I usually carry a laptop, lunch, water and a jacket. I sometimes take some camera gear as well. The Peak Design 5L Slimg fits in comfortably and can even be squeezed in when the laptop sleeve is in and still have room for some food or jacked on top. Concern: Inconvenient buckles The two buckles on the side are sometimes a pain to open and close and there's no quick access to the main compartment except through these buckles. But I can see how it helps the bag maintain a certain form and profile and help keep water out with the roll top. Also, plastic buckles are not my favorite but I like the price where it's at so if that's the sacrifice nesesary I'm ok with that. Overall ithe buckles are not a deal breaker as I've adjusted to them. Concern: Rain proof, really? I took my first 40 minute commute in the rain yesterday and the bag was glorious. I put my phone in the weather sealed pocket and had my laptop and other stuff inside. I got home completely soaked but everything in the bag was totally dry.

    Functional + Minimalist

    4

Love the durability of this bag. First day of use I walked a mile in torrential rain without an umbrella. All of my items were completely dry when I arrived home. A few criticisms. This bag is a little slim for the amount of items I tend to carry at once as a college student. (Fits a 13.3" slim laptop, 2-3 notebooks, and one textbook at once) The two pockets help, but if filled with bulk they block access to the lower inside of the bag. The main thing left to be desired is the lack of an external water bottle sleeve/pouch. Now for what I enjoy. I appreciate that the chest clips are removable. The back padding lives up to expectations. I like that the roll top clips can be closed delicately for those quiet lectures. Its slim design is also useful for packed lecture halls. Generally this bag fits the smallish, somewhat minimalist, but still functional design I was going for. It definitely appears to be one that will last. Thanks for making great products.
