Side Zip Vents

We talked with our homies in the Great White North about what they wanted in a wintertime cycling jacket. We heard one thing loud and clear. They need a way to keep the temperature regulated without sacrificing on comfort. The side zip vents in the Insulated Storm Parka give you the ability to choose how much ventilation you want while providing added articulation in the saddle. Comments about Storm Insulated Parka:

I live in Southern California, and I was planning a trip to Boston in early January. I typically "layer" as most Californians do when we brave cold weather; however, all weather reports indicated we were headed into one of the worst snow storms the East Coast has seen for quite sometime. So I pulled the trigger on this Parka. I have been a long time customer of Chrome Products, but this jackets exceeded my expectations. Completely kept me warm in subzero weather, and I love the look of this parka as well.

great jacket with a possible flaw

    By

    from new york city

    Pros

    • best for biking, winter, rains

    Cons

    • no waist drawstring
    • zipper may break

    Best Uses

    • bike share
    • hiking
    • replacement of wool winter coat
    • walking in the rain
    • walking in the snow

Comments about Chrome Storm Insulated Parka:

I have worn this while biking (awesome idea with the side zippers), walking in the rain and snow (provides ample covering and warmth with layering), and even as a replacement to my wool coat (stylish enough).

i have though a major and minor gripe. the major is the zipper. it takes me at least 3 tries to get it to latch on at the bottom and zip up. i feel that one of these days the zipper will just not latch on and am out of a good jacket.
the other con though minor is i wish there was a inner drawstring around the waist. its fine when i am biking though it would be beneficial when walking as it keeps the warmth in.. if not for these 2 cons, i would have given the jacket a fiver star

    Great coat with some flaws

    By

    from Brooklyn, NY

    Pros

    • No external snaps and zips to scratch camera
    • wind resistance

    Cons

    • coat hook
    • internal cinch belt
    • tiny hood

    Best Uses

Comments about Chrome Storm Insulated Parka:

I bought this jacket in December during a holiday sale. I was trying to find a nice looking jacket that wasn't super puffy but had some extra perks and the fact that this was somewhat made for bicyclists is a huge plus. The build quality is nice, although I wish the insulation was a bit more substantial. If you wear a sweater underneath you are solid. Plus it's great at blocking wind. The sleeves are long especially for someone like me with long arms. The pockets are big and can hold gloves when not in use. I do wish there were hand warmer pockets like on the Barrow Parka.

The side zips for riding or sitting are a great addition. As well as the fleece that tops the zipper so you don't have a cold zipper on your face.

There are 3 things however that are missing from this jacket that I think would have put it at the top of its game. 2 Minor and 1 Major.

First an internal cinch or drawstring to pull the center of the jacket closer to your body. More fitted but also when you zip open the sides you are allowing cold air in. Having that cinch would decrease the amount of air coming up inside your jacket.

Second. a hanging loop. You know, the tiny little loop on the inside of your jacket to hang on a hook or coat rack? It doesn't hang very well without one. and always putting it in a closet isn't ideal.

Third and most important: The hood. The hood is so small. This coat is designed as a bikers winter parka, and there is no way you can fit a helmet under this hood. It is so tiny. Even for my head, which isn't large, when i'm wearing a backpack and i go to throw my hood on. It gets bunched in and I have to do some shimmies to get the hood all the way out. And it lays rather high on the face, and is quite tight. This needs an update first and foremost. In this cold NYC weather we are having its essential to have a hood over your head or your helmet. Maybe it could have a zip or a cinching point to maybe expand the hood when needed.
