Our Citizen Chrome Grants are funded with 2% of every Chrome Citizen Messenger sold and awarded to makers, disruptors, and innovators making our cities better places. Their vision and fierce drive to take action in their community inspires us.
Citizen Chrome Grant #005 is awarded to Black Girls Skate (BGS), a non-profit committed to creating equity, visibility and safety for skaters who identify as Womxn, Non-binary, Trans AND Black, African, or Of Color. Their programs seek to start dialogue and create meaningful content around skate visibility, safety, and equity.
To continue their mission, BGS is using the Citizen Chrome Grant to launch their Freedom To Skate Project, which will provide mobile skate furniture to community spaces that allows for easy mobility and storage. Mobile skater furniture allows for easy storage, transportation, and various configurations of skate spaces. The purpose of this project is to empower engineering and technical design for aspiring engineers while supporting the cultivation of safe/open community driven skate spaces.
Follow along Black Girls Skate on Instagram to keep up with the Freedom To Skate Project. You can also donate to BGS's 100k Fundraiser - which will help provide support for skaters with resources, produce community networking events connecting skaters, support BGS admin costs, and create and disseminate educational materials.
