Damian Riehl: Streets of Chrome


While film might be dying off, like a tree at the onset of winter, Damian Riehl’s photography ensures the leaves return each spring. The Portland-based photographer braves the elements day after day on his track bike, delivering packages as a full-time bike messenger. While this job can be demanding at times, Damian will always stop to observe and capture moments most of us would merely pass by. Finding and making still life photos in a very much alive city like Portland isn’t as easy as you’d expect, which is why Damian also excels at capturing movement and motion surrounding bike and bike messenger culture. Catch him if you can, he’s usually moving at 1/500th of a second, in sync with his Hasselblad shutter…
