Citizen Berlin
Our Limited Edition messenger bag with iconic seatbelt buckle. Inspired by the land of lederhosen, Bavarian needlepoint, and beer.

Our third issue of the City Series pulls inspiration from our favorite German city, Berlin. We’ve taken a mash up of Lederhosen, Bavarian Needlepoint, and beer to develop the Berlin Citizen. Yes, we know, Berlin is not in Bavaria. And, we just really like Lederhosen.

The Berlin Citizen’s exterior shell is a water-resistant “felted” polyester that feels like a wool German Army blanket. The embossed D-panel is reminiscent of traditional German work wear. The floating bucket liner is made with 1000 denier truck tarpaulin, complete with a Bavarian inspired needlepoint design by British illustrator and pattern master Matt Manson. Finished off with an antique brass finished seatbelt buckle. Prost!

Gorgeous classier take on the standard Citizen.
I've used a Citizen (and Bravo, Warsaw, Berlin, ORP, Shank, and most of the clothing and shoe line too) for all sorts of things in my day to day and for messenger work and the nasty weather of Montreal. Chrome products are incredibly solid and I trust them immensely for keeping my goods dry and safe. That said, my other bags have that 'messenger' look, black or grey, inevitably kind of dirty, which is my style most days. Still, sometimes I like to throw on some dressier clothing or need to impress someone somewhere and my dirty black messenger bags don't cut it. The Berlin edition of the Citizen does the trick.

The photos on the website don't do it justice. The felted polyester looks and feels luxuriously smooth. The polyester and leather band are both slightly darker in person, which I think looks a little classier and more accurate to the German military aesthetic. The brass buckle draws a lot of positive attention. The print on the inside and red trimmings seem to be the final moment of awe for most people though. Some of my chic-er friends with a vintage/designer taste were impressed with what they assumed was a bigger foray away from my very utility oriented style.

My only concern with this bag is that the materials are subject to wear a bit more than the standard Cordura and truck tarp band. I didn't get this bag to abuse though (the Berlin and Bravo are on that), I got it to look good while still functionally doing the basics of holding a lot of gear and keeping it dry, and it does all this superbly.

Chrome, you nailed utility and style with this one. After seeing the craftsmanship in this one, I've got my eye on that BLCKCHRM Bravo now too.
