Shank Review
The hip pouch to destroy all others!! Waterproof zippers to ensure no beer or water is able to get inside and super comfortable to ride on a perfect day from bar to beer garden with out having to carry a bag. Has plenty of room for my flat repair kit, just in case , and room for my phone, wallet, and a road beer. The U lock holster makes sure I'm never without protection and if I want to get all Euro with it I can even ride it over my shoulder, sling bag style. Couple that with the fact that is integrates to the outside of the Cardiel Fortnight and I will never leave home with out it. Shank: Kill or be Killed!!

Shank!
I was excited about this bag from the moment I saw some teaser photos of the Cardiel bags. I got to see the bag in person at the Cardiel Launch Party in SF and I couldn't leave without getting this bag. That day I had taken my camera (Panasonic GF1 with a 20mm lens) and was carrying it in a small day bag. It was raining and I was worried about my camera getting wet. I took a look at the Shank and saw it was a perfect fit for my camera.

I had intended to use the bag as a shoulder bag, but it doesn't hug my body the way I hoped and it doesn't feel right. But as a hip bag it is awesome! The bag is so comfortable, I hardly notice it is on me, unlike when I carry a day bag. Now, I can throw my camera in the bag and go anywhere without thinking about it too much and worrying about my camera getting wet. I'm a pretty skinny guy so the straps would hang, making me look like i had on a karate belt, i took care of this by slipping hair ties around the straps to keep them from hanging.

Right now I've just been using it to carry my camera, but in the summer time I plan on skateboarding with it on. I hate taking a bag with me when I skate, but I hate skating with my keys and phone in my pockets. The Shank is the perfect size for my keys, phone, ipod, skate tool, and a water bottle.

Would have been ingenious
Would have been great if they had included one of their signature seatbelt buckles in the design. Otherwise, it is a well-made fanny pack.

Awesome
This bag is awesome. I use it all day long! its has just the right amount of space for your wallet, keys, classes, and even room for a PBR on the go.

the only one thing I dont like is the strap, a hangs, makes you feel like a 12yr old on th playground. I used a black rubber band as a quick fix for this. so far so good.

If you tinking about getting this bag do so. its worth the cost.

pretty much what i was looking for
when i'm not carrying enough to warrant the use of my metro bag, i wanted something smaller to hold enough stuff but still be good to ride with. I was looking at hip pouches and fanny packs and this pretty much summed up what I wanted. spacious enough to carry a rolled up tshirt, sunglasses, flat repair kit and tools with about 2 tallboys worth of extra space. u-lock holster of course fits the standard issue bulldog mini-u but also fits locks with slightly bigger shackles. the inside has a little net compartment to put smaller things like keys/wallet/phone/mp3 player. would have liked to see more compartments to separate these things (so my keys don't scratch up my phone and sunglasses). another place for opportunity would be to have a simple loop on the outside or anywhere on the bag that a rear flashing light could be mounted.

no real complaints from me. simple, excellent bag that does what it needs to.

great for the trails
My mountain bike cohorts have taken to rocking fanny packs. For 2 hour mountain bike jaunts on the singlespeed, a hyrdration pack is overkill yet the seatpost strap is too small. This pack is the ideal fanny pack.

Upon joining the fanny packers, I went for the Cardiel Shank. This pack has been ideal for mountain biking. For normal rides I fit a 29er tube, multi tool, CO cartridge, a small pump, and iphone. For epics, I can throw in a sandwich, banana, and carry glasses or additional gear as needed.

I love the narrow profile and weather proofness. I look forward to having this pack for a very long time.

My only gripe- there is not strap to keep loose straps from flapping around. THey are easily tucked into the hip belt, but another option would be ideal.

Bringing back the fanny pack
I love this thing wear it everywhere.
It does get caught on my seat from time to time.
Other than that no complaints.
I can stick a 24oz of Coors and a pbj sandwhich in this lil thing.
Better than a pack back durin rides less stress on the back and sweat stains. If you want somethin small a effective this is it.
