Our Familia is full of messengers who have to hit the streets in the gnarliest weather. With them in mind, we built our Storm series featuring a breathable, four-layer Storm membrane to keep water out without overheating. The Storm membrane lines the entire shoe from top to bottom to ensure water stays on the outside while venting heat to keep your feet dry even in a downpour.

Nice shoes, for what I wanted: I wanted very plain-looking black shoes which could take a beating, handle varying weather conditions, be worn while walking around, and pass for casual a bit more than 5-10s. I have high arches and although these shoes are pretty good cycling my rolling-hills circuit, I found walking in them a bit uncomfortable due to the inner soles' spongy-ness allowing my ankles freedom to roll - so I swapped out the inner soles, which come out very easily, for some high-arch performance inners and these shoes are now primo to walk in - very comfortable.

As for the design, construction, and aesthetics of the shoes, they are brilliant - simple yet practical design: nothing too flashy, just business, which is what I was looking for, and little touches like chrome ends on the laces - I get it - and logo placement. Very solid construction - lots of outer sole, about 3/4", with a nice balance between flex and rigidity (smells like bicycle tubes... hmmm); the tread pattern is nice also: plenty of grooves for into which fall the pins of my Brendogs. The thousand denier cordura is nice - first thing I did was put the shoes on then blast them with the hose - got to remember water will still enter where the tongue recedes under the top two eyelets; and yes, they look sweet with my black skins and black riding gear, and will be even sweeter when I finish building my stealth cycle.

So overall, after spending a little extra to upgrade the inners, I'm pretty happy with the shoes; so maybe half-size up, if your current size is a close fit and you're considering the possibility of changing the inners or be prepared for a longer wear-in period to compensate for that little bit of extra space some swanky new inners may take up. I would say these shoes are true to size; I don't have wide feet. Delivery was pretty swift too.

I got these mainly because they're advertised as waterproof and I live in Portland. Not only are they not waterproof, they are less water resistant then most non waterproof shoes. In fact it hasnt even been raining very much here, there is a little snow, but my toes got instantly soaked through the shoe. It's a huge bummer because i have to work out in the cold all day, and having wet feet sucks. They're also pretty pricey for not fulfilling their main selling point. I mean they look really cool, so i guess that's something, but i probably would've gone with something else had I known they wouldn't be functional.
I have another friend who owns the exact same shoe and she warned me the first day I got them, should've listened and returned them.

Comments about Storm Kursk Bike Shoe:

I use these for daily utility rides. I've only had them for about 10 days. I've ridden and worked in them for as much as 10 hours and they are really comfortable right out of the box. The sole is stiff enough for a good feel on the pedal and the compound has the right amount of grip. I thought they wouldn't breathe well but even after hours in the heat and humidity, they felt good. The shoes came neatly pre-laced and they are the right length with nice metal tips.

Comments about Chrome Storm Kursk Bike Shoe:

I traded in my last pair of Chrome shoes, which fell apart in three months, for store credit to get this more expensive pair. What was I thinking? The rubber strips around the sides come loose within a month and they start looking trashy. Then the rubber toe comes unglued. Then the entire sole of the shoe comes off. This happened with both pairs, all four shoes, that I have had from Chrome Industries.

Maybe I was a little rough with them? That's what they are advertised for. I biked in them every day and they didn't even outlast a pair of cheap Va-- am I allowed to mention the competition? What does a life time warranty even mean? Must be a marketing thing, I guess.

Comments about Storm Kursk Bike Shoe:

Casual shoes. Wear them nearly daily, since the dress code at my employer is casual. I love the metal grommets. I love that it HAS grommets. And the metal-tipped laces are awesome.

Something about the laces, though: they come untied unless you double-tie them. Obviously not a deal-breaker since I'm on my fourth pair, but still.

Comments about Chrome Storm Kursk Bike Shoe:

I have been wearing these daily to work for 10 months now, including a daily bike commute. They are comfortable and durable. One issues is there are multiple places along the perimeter of the sole that are delaminating from the shoe, so it is time to apply some shoe glue. They are definitely not water resistant anymore, but as an avid outdoors-man, I have come to find that nothing really is. Plus you either get wet from sweat or rain anyways. One annoyance is the metal at the tip of the shoe lace; if the laces are not well constrained in the elastic loop, there is a 'tick, tick, tick" sound every rotation of the crank or every step as you walk, from the metal hitting the shoe. I would, and will buy these again in the future.
