Tough Kicks

Our Forged Rubber™ Sneakers are the best city sneakers in the world. They're made by hand, one at a time, on 70-year-old machines we salvaged from Slovakia. The rubber is harvested from nearby rubber tree farms, fused directly onto our 12oz canvas upper at 300 degrees Fahrenheit, and will not delaminate—even at the flex point. We added our signature reflective heel and an antimicrobial sock liner with quick-dry contoured footbed for sockless summers and the occasional river crossing. Forged Rubber™ Sneakers look like sneakers, built like army boots.

I've had my Mirko's for over 6 months now and they have been great. I'm pretty tough on shoes, riding, hiking, park football, Foul weather, chemical spills from work... you name it. Typically a pair of shoes this old would have worn holes in the sole, had the stitching fail or the sole has peeled off the upper (or a combination of all of the above). I've tried most the major brands with the same outcome. So the fact these are still going strong after this time has me happy as can be. A little bit of wearing in was necessary due to the stiffness of the sole and reflective heel but after a week or two they are super comfy and don't look like failing anytime soon. Would buy again but these would have to wear out first. not sure when that will happen.

I want to start off with the long list of pros for these shoes. They are really durable! Somewhat on the heavy side. I ride through the winter in New England and they actually protect my feet from the wind very well with just regular socks on. I didn't have to wear wool socks once while riding to work, even with temps around 10___F or below. Great in rain too since it takes a while for it to fully saturate the material.

My foot is sort of in between regular and wide. These remind me of slightly wider skateboarding shoes I used to wear when I was a kid. After a week or so, everything was broken in and they felt perfectly comfortable. There was a part of the material inside where it connects to the tongue, I think, that was rubbing into my foot but that is not noticeable anymore. Overall they are very comfortable and perfect for my slightly wide foot.

Now for the most glaring issue with these shoes, and really the only fault that stands out...THE TREAD!!! Pictures do not do justice in telling you how fine the tread is on these shoes; they basically rubbed smooth at regular contact points before the end of a season. When it rains, my foot will easily slip off the metal teeth on platform pedals which is just insanely dangerous while riding in the rain during rush hour in Boston.

I don't understand why the little tread that is there is so fine and it doesn't even cover the entire sole. Walk on some ice and you're pretty much done. It is very grippy on pavement in dry weather, oddly enough. I was hoping to use these for moderate hiking too but that doesn't seem safe on any loose dirt or the fine dust on SoCal mountain trails. I'd be sliding up and down everything.

My rating is a balance between all the things I love about this shoe and the one huge problem with them. Surprised no one really mentions this. I'd buy these again in a heartbeat if they redesigned the shoe with a real tread that can grip anything other than dry pavement.

This is the most durable shoe Ive ever owned but I just wish the shoe was breathable. I use this shoe to play sports with and my feet sweat a lot! If this shoe had some sort of breathability design and yet keep the forged rubber and the durable fireman hose material it would be the perfect shoe. Chrome Industries please make it happen!!!! its not healthy for feet to be hot our feet need to breathe! thank you for making such a great shoe that you've saved me money from not having to keep buying so many cheaply made shoes after one of them gets torn.

I've had these shoes for close to two years now. The only true complaint I have is how fast the bottom of the sole wore completely smooth, which only took a few months. In regards to comfort, I felt like they were very comfortable even when brand new and that holds true today. At this point I've had very little sole separation from the upper of the shoe, which is awesome because that's something I've experienced with other shoes and hated. I would buy them again, for sure, but would prefer a little more tread to the sole.

These were painful while breaking in, after broken in they were really comfortable. I go through shoes quite often, either soles separate or wear holes into the sole or the canvas. These have held up for over a year with minor separation of the sole/canvas. Only complaint is the painful break in period and I wish the tread lasted a little longer since now the shoe's are practically smooth on the bottom.
